MAY 2009 Genstar Development Company is pleased to announce the new Calgary community of Walden has welcomed its first residents. Twenty-four year old Christian Orme holds the title of first buyer in Calgary's newest southeast community of Walden. He has taken possession of his 1371 sq ft. semi-detached home built by Homes by Avi. Genstar recently presented him with a plaque commemorating this exiting milestone.
Genstar's emphasis on being a low-impact neighbourhood developer and commitment to preserving natural landscapes are showcased in Walden, Genstar's newest innovation in master planned residential development. Development manager Paul Boskovich describes Walden as a master-planned community that "focuses on smart growth and low-impact development. The community has definitely been well-received since we started Walden at the beginning of the year." Located on the south side of 194 Ave, Walden is just south of Lake Chaparral adjacent to the Bow River Valley. It offers enhanced connections to nature through its preserved trees and linear pathways, as well as a 10-acre commercial site within Walden that's slated for development later this year. The Shawnessy Town Centre shopping district is only a few minutes away, as are established shops in nearby Lake Chaparral, and with the LRT just five minutes away in Somerset, Orme adds that this will be a real benefit for his roommates, "Two of them work in the south but one is more central so access was important." Walden includes a broad mix of residential products, from single family and semi-detached homes to townhomes and condominiums - all united by distinctly original fusion architecture that coexists peacefully with the community's natural setting. This type of flexibility further attracted Orme who was torn on homestyles. "I was originally planning on buying a townhome or condo, but the Homes by Avi duplexes were in the same price range and I was able to choose my layout. That was key." Orme arrived half an hour prior to the Walden showhome grand opening in September to secure a corner lot. His new home is one of 50 in the area that has been purchased in the community to date, and according to Orme it was Genstar's emphasis on low-impact living that attracted him, "They're doing a really good job with parks and paths. It's going to be really nice when it's all finished."
